Eastward: Design Works is a new book published by Lost In Cult in 2025. There are two editions — a slipcased deluxe hardback, and a soft covered standard edition.
The book celebrates Eastward which was created by Pixpil in 2021. It’s a wonderfully nostalgic 2D pixel-art adventure game, with real heart and plenty of quirks.
An overall concept for the exterior of the book had already been designed by Patrick Crotty; my brief was to art direct and lay out the content of the interior, some 256 pages.
I established a strong but flexible grid, which could flex to handle a vast amount of different content, from paintings to pixels. The type is set in Lo-Res by Emigre Fonts, Plantin, and Bagoss by Displaay.
